Frosty-Faced Fogo was a well-known celebrity in the world of Regency Period bare-knuckle boxing or pugilism. It would seem that no known image of him has survived but the illustration left, tallies with a description of him in Bell's Life in London and in that paper it headed a column to which he was a principal contributor for over a decade. His nickname came about due to his face having been pockmarked by smallpox in childhood - looking as if it was frostbitten.
This is a revised and much expanded version of the webpages I issued in 2016 and is in the form of PDF files. I have had just 50 copies of the whole printed which can be obtained for £100 each [inc. post in UK] while copies last [family and libraries e.g. British Library, Bodleian taking most] – they weigh around 2.75kg each. Contact me at the postal address in the book, or at rcsenior at yahoo dot com
In view of the cost, I am happy if private individuals run off a single copy from these PDF files for themselves, in order to get one bound.
